Android is a software platform based on Linux that is used
in smartphones and tablets. It's quickly expanding popularity has elevated it to
the forefront of the mobile device market.
Android is now more than simply an operating system for smartphones; it is a full infrastructure. This operating system is used by not only phones, tablets, and laptops, but also televisions and refrigerators.
The initial version of the operating system, Android 1.0 l,
was published in 1008, but its history began five years before, in 2003, when
Andy Rubin assembled a team to develop a mobile operating system and founded
Android Inc. Initially, developers concentrated on gadgets that could be
carried by users at all times, use GPS to determine position, and automatically
respond to a person's needs.
Who hasn't seen the Android logo, which is a charming green
robot? That format is well-known to almost everyone. But do you know the story
behind the logo's creation?
Irina Blok, a Google graphic designer, created the Android
logo in 2007.
She said that the Android logo was intended to become a
global emblem. The logo has to be related to the term, thus the team opted to
dive into some very simple drawings or sketches.
The main feature of the Android Logo is a robot with a quadrangular torso, a semicircular head with two antennae, and limbs represented by bars with rounded ends. Irina Blok created the emblem after receiving a suggestion from her boss to add a robot to the design.
Finally, the team decided on a robot-shaped emblem with a
strong body and an inverted bowl-shaped head.
Irina also stated that the logo went through multiple
revisions before being selected as the Android icon it is today. The green
color was chosen based on the PMS 376C print's standard color value of A4C639.
Green, according to Irina, can contrast with practically any color,
particularly dark colors.
Initially, the logo was allegedly stolen from a game character in Gauntlet: The Third Encounter. Irina Blok, on the other hand, refuted this. She also disclosed that Blok created the logo entirely from scratch.
Finally, a distinct logo, as we know it now, was formed.
Blok's design was simple enough to become iconic, appealing to a much broader
audience than the development industry.
